One of the reasons our trip to Hawaii was so amazing is because of where we stayed! The beach villa was wonderful. The villa is right in front of the pool and lagoon #2. We were there during Halloween and the resort had a little Halloween event our 5 year old was able to participate in. The place was so perfect it made it difficult to leave. We hope to come back to Hawaii and stay here again!

Wow! What a beautiful resort! The lagoons were great for being able to relax in the water and for kids to swim!
Love the sidewalk that connects to each lagoon as well! The food, drinks, service and staff were all incredible!

Beautiful resort, stayed there twice but on our second stay we realized at the end of the trip the room was infested with BED BUGS. We had a great trip that is now overshadowed by worry about possibly bringing them home.

Simply amazing! This iconic beachfront property leaves nothing lacking. We were greeted after a long flight with aloha and a cool drink while we checked in. The staff are professional and provide excellent service. Our room was comfortable, clean and spacious. We enjoyed the beach tote and slippers provided. Such a thoughtful touch. Copper Bar has a fantastic menu and live entertainment. The property is very private and not shared by other hotels so it’s like you have you own island! Simply one of the best beaches with SUP, snorkeling (lots of fish!) and kayaking. General Manager Kansas Henderson is to be congratulated.

The people are the greatest! The Hotel and grounds are perfect especially considering how long it has been in business. The decor updates and continuous maintenance keep this property at the top of it’s class.
We enjoyed all the restaurants including the luaui which all were great. The ‘Number 3’ by the golf course is great for lunch and drinks and has never been crowded. Drinks come in glass not plastic.
We have been to some of the best throughout the world and Mauna Kea is a top keeper.

Mauna Kea is a true gem. Been coming here for 30 years and this may have been the best year ever. This historic resort is well maintained and very relaxed. I know it’s not as bougie as some of the newer resorts but it’s a top choice of many who’ve been coming to the big island for decades. Service has been over the top, nothing is a problem for the staff. Food, drinks, music, beach, golf l, and more; it all adds up to a unique and wonderful Hawaii experience.

The hospitality and the effort the hotel provides to make you feel welcome is unparalleled to other hotels. I really loved the incredible ocean view, the gentle breeze that welcomed us along with delicious juice and crisp cold hand towels. However we were definitely underwhelmed by the condition of our oceanfront room. We first noticed upon check in that our bathroom shutter door was not closing properly. Thankfully the maintenance came right away to fix the room, but not the best way to spend the first hour of our stay here. There were visible rusts and wear/tear of the furnitures. The curtain had visible holes. I do expect a bit better for spending >$1000 a night. I’m sure there is definitely a great reason why this place is hard to book (mainly because of the caliber of the ocean), however this room is in major need of renovation.

We had a great time at the beach today. The weather was perfect. The water was calm and inviting. We had to use the golf clubhouse happicap space because the beach parking was full, but it wasn’t. They usually have spaces available, but can you do? Enjoy this wonderful beach as we do!

  1. Absolutely loved this hotel! Everyone at the front desk was so nice and helpful and gave great suggestions for the area. It’s about 15-20 minutes from the airport, and just across the street from the beach.

We ended up trying all of the food spots at the hotel (Maui Brewing co for lunch, and Hawaiian Aroma Cafe for breakfast) as well as The Gallery downstairs (the same menu as the Aroma Cafe) and all were delicious.

The rooms were clean and comfortable, and had good AC (lowest temp was 65F but no complaints). There was a mini fridge in the room but no microwave which would have been nice.

There is a laundry room on the parking level to use, but it’s limited and most of the machines only take quarters so it was a bit of a hassle. We only used it once though so it wasn’t a big deal.

The gift shop seemed to have odd hours (maybe they were short staffed?) and closes at 7pm. Which it would have been open later, but there are a ton of ABC (convenience) stores everywhere on the main road open much later that are cheaper anyway.

Overall I loved the location, the staff, and the environment. All of the guests we spoke to as well were also having a great time. I would 100% stay here again in the future

  2. Very good stay at the Beachcomber. It’s in a great location and the pool area is nice too.
We had a good check in with Kristina who was really friendly and accommodating. She was able to provide us with an early check in which was really appreciated after a long flight.
The rooms are well appointed and are decorated in clean fresh colours and modern furnishings. We had a great view from our room so enjoyed having some pre-dinner drinks on our balcony.
We enjoyed our stay and would recommend.

  3. The location of this property is absolutely fantastic. Very walkable, steps to the beach, and in the heart of everything for Waikiki.

While the decor is lovely, it is apparent this is an older hotel that was renovated. The rooms and bathrooms are small, lighting is lacking, and the elevators are slow.

Yet, we really enjoyed the beach view, the cafe downstairs, and the modern vibe overall.

If you are interested in pool time go early or you won’t find a spot since it’s quite a small area.

  4. We had an amazing experience at Waikiki Beachcomber by Outrigger and I would highly recommend staying here. The location was perfect, the prices were affordable, and the hotel was very clean. They also conveniently had everything you need located in the hotel including shops, restaurants, and valet parking. The staff was also top notch – some of the most friendly and helpful people I have ever met! Vicky, Clarita, Kristine, Ashley, Joy, Florencia, and Daniel made sure that we were taken care of and that we had the best stay in Waikiki. Because of their high quality level of service, we will definitely be back!

  5. We enjoyed our stay there and the staff were all very nice. Khristina was the sweetest and very welcoming. You don’t see many people anymore who actually enjoy their jobs and she definitely gave a wonderful impression. The room was clean and very nice, loved the view. I was worried that their idea of ocean view wouldn’t actually be ocean view, but it was perfect. The beach was just a block away and very easy to get to. There was lots of eating and shopping places in walking distance, so no car needed. The only negative thing was no microwave in the room. That would have been a nice amenity.
