I spent a week here with my family in early December, booking two rooms and the all-inclusive package. Although slower-paced than my usual vacations, my stay here was mostly positive (helped by clear and warm weather the entire time), and I’d consider coming again.
The good:
– The rooms were very spacious, especially the two-bedroom suite.
– The beach was not at all crowded, and the water was calm enough to swim in.
– Friendly and helpful staff.
– The restaurant food was pretty good. Never had an issue finding something tasty to eat.
– My wife really enjoyed the massage she got from the spa.
– Across the three connected resorts, there’s plenty of space to take a nice stroll around, if you don’t feel like venturing out into the city. The bad:
– The rooms always had kind of a “damp” smell to them. The sheets also felt like they had a bit too much moisture in them. The air didn’t feel particularly humid, so I’m not sure why this was.
– Check-in process takes way too long.
– Most dinner restaurants require reservations. The Italian restaurant was often the only reservation available unless you booked several days in advance. Luckily we ended up liking the Italian one the best. The meh:
– Restaurant service was a bit slow. We always needed to budget at least 90 minutes for every meal. We also needed to wait to sign a “check” at the end of every meal, despite having the all-inclusive package.
– There was always a pack of vendors just outside the beach access waiting to sell you trinkets and boat rides. They were harmless, but occasionally annoying.
– Beach sand was a bit coarse and not so pleasant to walk in barefoot. It gets a bit finer closer to the water though.
– A constant rotation of cruise ships was always arriving to block our view.By Sean Wang (4 months ago)Be careful of hidden fees and lies!!! The check in process is really bad. It took us over an hour then they try to sell you a sales presentation timeshare, don’t goo!! It’s 2 hours of intense selling and they don’t take no for an answer. Half the discounts they offer you, don’t actually apply. Ex. ATVs for $28 each…read the fine print…no it’s $65 each for an automatic and $20 per person entrance fee.
Fight them on excursion prices, they will lie to you. Make sure you hold them to the prices on the paper…. The staff at the check in desk is not the friendliest. I called multiple times to make them aware it was my husbands birthday and I would pay extra for something special in the room, wasn’t done. This is a true 3 star resort and you get what you’re paid for. I was impressed by the food I will say and I’m picky. Do all the shows and play bingo everyday and set out your towels at the chairs you want!!By Ashlee Lofton (5 months ago)We stayed here for three night in November. The resort is beautiful and have access to the beach. The rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable. I used the gym and it is nice as well. It has everything you need for a good workout. I liked the steam, and sauna room along with the hot tub in the locker room. However, the front desk service is slow and the lobby is packed with the concierge staff that will attack you as soon as you enter the hotel. We had five different person coming to us from the concierge staff and asking us the same questions, which was very annoying after a long trip. During the day the hotel gets very noisy and you could hear the noise inside the room.
Overall, it’s a good hotel and close to downtown and the staff was nice besides the concierge.By John Doe (5 months ago)Location is beautiful! And the personnel are all very friendly and personable. Pools are heated with lots of chaises. Facilities, rooms, and grounds are very well maintained and beautiful. Food is very good but incredibly expensive if you dont have an all inclusive package.
I gave a review of 3 because the concierge, at our check-in, suggested attending a talk about the excursions with the discounted prices. Guess what!?#$%? No, it was a hard-selling timeshare pitch! When we declined during during the timeshare sales pitch, two more salespeople tried again to hard-sell us. Waste of a couple of hours but you can’t leave early else you don’t receive your 500 pesos deposit back. There are other ways to get excursion discounts so avoid the concierge so-called “welcome package”.By Antoinette Archambeau (a week ago)I stayed there 5 nights 6 days, 100% satisfied! The entire staff made my vacation so enjoyable. Edna was amazing helping me plan out my activities. Provided me with a map and tips and tricks to get to Downtown. House keeping was on point! Food was amazing, my favorite was Carbon Grill ! Restaurant management was always so pleasant in helping us with our daily reservations for dinner. They literally had very joyful nightly events at the restaurant. From listing to Mariachis, Lion King musical performance to Elvis Presley night. Also by 10pm it was all nicely closed down so we had a quiet night. Can’t wait to be back !By Candy Hernandez (4 months ago)

Pretty nice place with lots of room for a family of four. It has three large pools and an adult only pool. There aren’t a lot of drunks hanging out. The rooms are very quiet. They keep you busy with activities and games during the day. They have mini golf and a beach party one night. Food is pretty good too. The shrimp wrapped in bacon was the best meal of the week. Italian night was delicious. We did the meal plan which included all the food, drinks and snacks. We would stay here again. The bedroom had a king size bed and the sofa rolled down to accommodate two kids. There was also an additional cot in the closet.By Noella Fritz (2 weeks ago)Overall a great experience! Location is perfect right near downtown, which worked well because we chose not to do the all inclusive. We did a lot of excursions so figured it wouldn’t be worth it, however, I wish they’d had an option for all inclusive just for 1 day at least for the day we chose to spend hanging by the pool. Drinks are expensive yes, but they do offer lots of options like a happy hour on food and drinks. Waiters were attentive, and the room was massive with a beautiful view.
Also, I saw some reviews about check in and I’ll add my two cents. I was worried we’d be hassled for the time share, but honestly it was very quick. Yes we had to go see the time share staff to get pool towel slips, but when we said we were all set she was very nice about sending us off after we’d said we already made reservations at excursions ahead of time.
Definitely would stay here again!
By Christina Renteria (5 months ago)This was my second time at Playa Grande. We did all inclusive for 4 days (in the past at different places we have been all inclusive service is poor) our service was very good! We tipped the waiter at the beginning of the day. To let them know we will take care of you if you take care of us, and left a larger tip at the end of the day. We tried to stay with the same waiter everyday. Fernando and Mariam were very good about taking care of us and our larger group of 15 people. The food at the resort is very good. We paid for all inclusive and ate and drank during the day and went down town for dinner and drinks in the evening and still got our money worth!! We will absolutely be back again!By Mandi Barnts (2 months ago)I have pros and cons… They overcharged us on a few occasions. When we checked in, they attempted to tell us we did not purchase the “all-inclusive” option (although we had the receipts to prove it) and charged us an extra $850. With reading previous reviews it seems like this may be a reoccurring problem. When we went to confirm our shuttle back to the airport they charged us an additional $21 for an explanation they could not give. If you are wanting to go to a more relaxing resort, I would personally steer away from this one as loud music is played all day long until about 6-8? The food is 7/10, all of the restaurants listed on the site are not always open. (Open on certain days throughout the week- and EVEN if you have an all-inclusive plan, it’s not all-inclusive. They charge more for certain foods/ meals.) When it states “all-inclusive” read the fine print. For some it may not be a big deal, but for others like myself their rules and restrictions on “all-inclusive” are a little odd. Room service is not included, certain meals/foods they charge you for, and you can’t take your food to go from a restaurant without being charged a fee) On a positive note, the restaurant and housekeeping staff were lovely, the resort is overall really clean and beautiful. We had family staying two resorts over and they were really accommodating with taking us back and forth. I do not think I would come back to this resort, but there were other guests we met during our time there that loved it. It just depends on what you are looking to get out of in a vacation.By Shelly Wingate (4 months ago)The view from the roof to Pool is amazing! You can see in almost every direction for miles. The bars are well stocked with the good stuff and the food is pretty good. We along stayed 3 nights before we moved to a different resort a little bit north. What I liked about this Grande is you can easily walk to the docks and down town for all type of food and drinks and activities. Had some of the best street taco on my life just a block off the main drag. The rooms could be a little cleaner and service a little more prompt. Over all for the price point a solid hotel.By Joseph Beilke (4 months ago)

Thank you for reading! If you have any additional information on the best Beach Resort in El Tecolote, Baja California Sur, please leave a comment below. We would love to hear from you!
Stayed at the Dreams for 10 days. Pool is amazing with pool side service from Elsa…Very sweet lady, Roman by the kiddie pool and Hugo from the welcome bar.
The entertainment crew brought in life to this place every day. MARCOS, Jorge, Sofia and Sara were amazing! The level of energy these kids bring in is just lively.
Stay was good but wont be returning just because of the food. No flavour. You have to ask for hot sauce every time. There is no authentic Mexican restaurant.
One of the most unaccommodating all inclusive resorts I have stayed at. It’s a three star dressed up as a five. Our family spent a significant amount of money to be here and will not return. Unfriendly staff, outdated rooms, cheap alcohol, bland food. Save your money and go elsewhere.
Update:
Our experience continues to get worse. We were told that a New Years celebration was included as part of the all inclusive (as confirmed by our travel agent and with the hotel) and no reservations were required. However, as the week continued staff seem to change their tune and a charge was now associated.
To make things worse we thought we would head out to one of the ‘all inclusive’ restaurants for a New Years dinner celebration. Once there we felt unwanted. Staff had told us locals were paying to be there. Seems like the staff has forgotten we are paying guests. Furthermore, the menu was limited with no kids options or vegetarian.
All in all this experience keeps getting worse. $10000 USD for a family of 4 for a 7 day stay. Seriously, look elsewhere unless you want to feel like you’re not in an all inclusive.
Resort was beautiful. View was amazing. Only complaints we have is we tried to extend our stay. For 2 days straight I kept asking the front desk and the travel agent guy here at the resort for help and a price on extending our stay a few nights. No one could give me answers. I told them I’m trying to give y’all my money we would love to stay longer. Never got an answer so we just went home as planned. Overall. Great place.
Rooms are lovely. Somewhat noisy especially when our room had door to adjoining room we did not request. Neighbor guests smoked on balcony which drifted into our room. Security slow to reply to noise complaints.
Front end staff wonderful. Food so so. Confusion over restaurant wait times. Food often not hot.
Biggest issue the high pressure, won’t take no for an answer, mandatory sales presentation. Insulted when the second sales person came to the table telling me ” breathe lady”.
Won’t stay there again. Numerous lovely all inclusive resorts for same weekly rates with no buying needed.
Id say our experience at Dreams was average.
Pros: nice rooms, decent food, great entertainment team offering lots of activities, clean, a nice spa and a fun club for the evenings.
Cons: Not enough pool chairs (people were saving chairs at like 6am), restaurants opened too late and had long waits (which was rough for kids), staff was hit or miss on friendliness, evening live music was great but they did not play late enough.
Overall, the pool chairs and restaurant wait times were the most frustrating and would be the reason we would not return. However, we still had a good time.
