For an older hotel, it has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The big draw for us was how close the town was (walking distance) and also the tide pool. We were able to rent snorkel gear right across our building at Snorkel Bob’s (Only $14/day) and snorkeled in the beautiful tide pool. The sunset view is unmatched.
The staff are all super friendly and we loved that they checked in on us via text throughout the stay. The two times we requested items to the room they came in less than 5 minutes both times. We were here for only about 12 hours, but they were hours well spent! They allowed for late check out to noon without a charge.
There is ample parking for $25/day and the rooms are clean and comfortable. It would be better if they had 2 queen beds instead of 2 double beds in the rooms.
The restaurant on the shore is gorgeous and has excellent food and service. You’ll find yourself just relaxing at your table, gazing at the incoming waves.
The pools next to the restaurant provide a soothing relief to the glare of the sun.
Everyone is helpful and friendly. We would have stayed longer if not for ultimately staying in a condo/timeshare.

It’s showing its age though. Could use a lot of upgrade if exterior and interior, but when traveling for business, a nice clean room and central locale are good enough most times. Nothing bad to say and no gripes. Hawaii is expensive wherever you go and stay.By M. Klein (5 months ago)Overall we had a nice stay. We had 2 x ocean view rooms. The rooms were comfortable and clean but are very dated. The entire hotel is in need of a refresh.Check-in and out was straightforward enough and staff were friendly and professional.
The pool is nice but small for a hotel of this size. The lagoon is very nice, particularly during sunset and there were a lot of fish and crabs to see.
We did not get the opportunity to use the restaurant or bar. There was a heavy rainstorm one evening so the restaurant was closed for safety reasons.
Very well located with easy access to the town of Kona. Plenty of shops and restaurants nearby.
As can be said for most hotels (and everything else) in Hawaii, this hotel is not good value for money.

Didn’t attend luau but saw some of it from restaurant and it looked great. Had a small issue with room but the staff took care of it quickly. Beautiful spot on the beach for a cocktail and sunset. They’re currently undergoing a remodel to portions but enough complete to serve patrons! Drinks were pretty weak unfortunately but the med plate was really good and decent portion. Service nice. Remodel well done. Live music started around 5, great atmosphere. Prepare for a line to form starting >15 minutes depending on night if you want table in the sand. Quite popular with all walks of life and ages. Make sure to go at non-peak hours to avoid the rush as it’s one of the most sought after restaurant on the big island, understandably. The restaurant was closed from last 4-5 months (not sure why). It recently got reopened and it was running at full capacity. We went for dinner around 5.30 pm and managed to grab great seats overlooking the beautiful ocean and very talented band performing the live music. Around 6.30 pm, people started pouring in. Food was delicious, little on the pricier side. I ordered coconut shrimp and pineapple chicken fried rice bowl. Rice quantity was super tiny, delicious but came in a tiny bowl. Shrimp was deep fried (I am not a fan of deep fried) but surprisingly it tasted good. With this breathtaking view and ambience, the price is justified. There was a large selection of drinks. If you time it to come at like 3:30 or earlier you miss the longer waits. They do have a fun social area with a bar for the wait. I have come here twice for my birthday and love the food. The hook, line and sinker is always amazing. I also love the coconut shrimp! We did get lucky with getting a table, depending on where we wanted to sit we could either eat right away or wait 2 hours. We had dinner overlooking the ocean at about 6:30 PM and despite having just rained, it was to die for. Our server was wonderful and the food was actually gourmet. Chuck is fresh ground, fries are freshly cut and prepared, steaks are not frozen and cooked perfectly as asked. Good balance of flavors and you can’t beat the view. The burger is in my top 3, and Ive had nearly 100 burgers from various restaurants. Fried rice could use a little more soy, or maybe butter or salt. Small critique. Maybe mix in some furikake? Still good though. Vegetables were cooked PERFECTLY with an amazing flavor ratio for how live they were. Steak sauce was well balanced and not too salty. The lava cake with ice cream is a delight. One of the highlights of our trip. I absolutely loved this place. The grounds were immaculately taken care of, the rooms were spacious and clean, and there was a ton of stuff to do to keep you busy. The lagoon was by far my favorite feature – its calm, quiet, and you get to swim among turtles, fish, eels, and all sorts of other miscellaneous wildlife that finds itself into the bay. The food is pricey but comparable to most other local places. I highly recommend staying here if you are traveling to Big Island.. there’s just something special about this place!
We stayed in remodeled Ocean Tower studio. It was beautiful with refrigerator, microwave, toaster, and dishes. We visited on a time share promotional package. And we didn’t buy a time share. Resort is huge so plan to walk a lot. Hallway to parking lot is like a museum and worth walking through … it’s like an art gallery. Monorail was good, but a bit slow.
Parking rate is ridiculous at $39 per day and parking lot was really far from room. Room signage could be improved. Check in process seemed exceptionally slow. Netflix and other apps were unreliable as we just kept getting kicked out. Didn’t appear to be options for fast, budget meals like a burger and fries. Morning coffee line was really long so be prepared to make coffee in your room.
Overall we really enjoyed our stay. It was a beautiful resort. Landscaping and location was amazing.
It is a nice clean place to stay with beautiful landscaping and nice views but convenience is non existent. You pay $40 per DAY to park way far away from the main lobby and once you’ve made your way up there you have to wait for a tram to pick you up once on the tram you ride through multiple stops to get to where you need to be. Hidden fees almost everywhere take you from a reasonable price point to the rates of luxury hotels. Staff aren’t going to go out of their way to help you navigate the place or make any accommodations. While the room was clean it was extremely dated and didn’t have much to offer:(
I have been to the Hilton Waikoloa many times over the years and every time I have been to their property I have loved it, with the exception of this time. We were upgraded to an ocean view room the day of arrival, which was awesome, what wasn’t awesome was the fact that after coming back several times over the past 10 years, there haven’t been any updates to any of these rooms. The rooms still have the old beat up wood consoles that have been there for the last 10 or so years. It doesn’t look like the carpet has been changed out and there are patch marks on the doors and walls throughout the room. Many of the restaurants that were previously on the property have closed. The breakfast buffet and the Mexican restaurant are gone and the restaurants they do have are extremely over priced. The tram doesn’t run as frequently as it has in the past either, making it difficult to get anywhere on the property without having to walk long distances. We waited many times for the tram for over a half hour, along with other guests. Many times we gave up and just walked the long distance. I felt bad for those who were traveling with young children and those that were physically unable to walk the long distances, they ended up having to wait longer than usual just to use the tram. The have limited the boats that run as well and we found very few times that you could even get on one. There are only a couple of restaurants on the property with limited menu items. I understand that inflation has caused food prices to rise, but the cost of food and drinks on the property is ridiculous. Pancakes at the NUI restaurant were $24. Burgers were anywhere from $12-18. 8 ounce smoothies were $12. Parking is an astounding $44 a day. Previously if you had a red eye flight, Hilton would offer the Hospitality suite, so you could stay on the property and at least shower before catching your flight. Not any longer. I was told that they did away with the hospitality suite and if I wanted to shower, I would have to use the pool showers outside. I tried multiple times to have conversations with the staff that were cleaning my room and every time I passed by them and told them “good morning”, they would put their head down and continue walking without any response. I love the Hilton brand, but I feel like the changes they have made on the property aren’t benefiting anyone. I hope someone is listening and wanting to make some changes. I love this property, just not the direction it is headed.
This resort was incredible. The grounds and buildings were beautifully kept up. The staff was friendly and helpful. We walked the grounds every morning with absolutely stunning ocean views and were thrilled to be able to see whales breaching each day. From our room, around the Makai tower – down to the Palace tower and circle back to our room was about a mile. It was a perfect distance to get the day started. As a bonus we were able to stop and watch the dolphins eating breakfast and playing, and most mornings saw sea turtles coming and going from the lagoon. The parking lot was very full, but the resort didn’t feel crowded.
