We set out on a journey to see the California coast and traveled along rt.1 visiting every beach we could. I recommend staying aware of your fuel level and places to stay because they are far and few between. Beachcombers has great rooms and beach access which made us very happy. The property takes on a mini resort feeling and very comfortable. The sliding doors and fire burners on the back deck make for a relaxing atmosphere. Room was clean and the bed was comfortable.

We stayed in one of their Hot tub rooms and it was amazing! All the furniture looks very modern and everything in the room was super clean. It was very spacious which is awesome when traveling with pets or kids. You also have access to their Patio area where we spent most of our time hanging out by the fire pits. After a long day of walking around Fort Bragg coming back and relaxing in their hot tub was a perfect way to end the day! I can’t wait till I come back!

I loved this place! That’s the short story.

For those of you want the long story, here it is:
We traveled here with our toddler, and it was a perfect fit. The rooms were just large enough not to feel claustrophobic and to give him room to play; the beds were comfortable, and the staff is helpful. Even better, the beach was within easy walking distance, so we had built in entertainment when we didn’t have the energy for a more grand adventure. There’s also a walking/bike trail right outside your sliding glass door, and we’re looking forward to renting some of the bikes available from the hotel when our kid is old enough to ride a bike. We will definitely be back.

As for the general location, it’s right on the edge of Fort Bragg, making it a reasonable drive to restaurants and the grocery store.

Wonderful location. The deck area with the seating and firepits was great. There are walking paths right outside and the beach is right there. Very dog friendly. Room was a bit small for three people – we had to get a cot/pullout bed for my daughter and it was a tight fit. But overall, we enjoyed our stay here.

We returned to the Beachcomber after many years to find it looking fresh and really enjoyed our stay. Our only concern was the smell of propane coming from the kitchenette stove. Maintenance did come check it but the smell persisted. We kept the windows open for ventilation. Other times we’ve stayed in the balcony rooms and the rooms with no kitchenette and had a great day as well. Again this is a great place to stay, we highly recommend it! the fire pits outside, great location, on the deck the views and the dog friendly area and people.

My husband and I have been celebrating our Wedding Anniversary and/or Valentine’s day at your hotel for over 20 years since it was called The Marina Dunes and had individual hot tubs on the bottom floors and our own personal golf carts.

Unfortunately, over the past few years, the ambiance that we loved so much about the property has diminished. We absolutely loved the oceanfront rooms.

But it seemed as though you decided to appeal to a younger demographic by installing volleyball courts which increased the noise level during the day and became a hang out spot at night.

Several years ago, during our last stay there, we were awakened by a couple who were arguing and one person was locked out of the room. They eventually were asked to leave. And you no longer offer golf carts because people were driving them while drunk and crashed into buildings and one person let their 6 year old drive.

And the prices per night have dramatically increased. Because I was a frequent customer, I used to receive discount offers via email which I no longer receive.

We have enjoyed our time spent at the Sanctuary Beach Resort over the years, but any future visits, unfortunately, have come to an end.

Pros – Great resort!…Quiet, clean, beautiful ocean views, AWESOME staff, room service, prompt and friendly shuttle service, huge bathroom with 2 pedestal sinks, separate toilet area, fireplace in the room, which kept us nice and warm on those cool nights, and well-maintained grounds.
Cons – no nightstands next to the bed in the deluxe ocean view room, which I found odd, but the staff quickly found us bedside tables. Also, there was no dresser to place your clothes in, but there was a huge open area in the bathroom with no hooks to hang clothes and could’ve housed a dresser, but we made it work…
This will absolutely be our go-to hotel when in the Monterey area!👍

My expectations were far exceeded. The location is amazing but the staff was right on par. There was a young lady at the front desk who was so nice to our daughter. This place will have a 10/10 in my book for life.

Amazing location and everyone is very friendly. Spent 3 nights in an oceanfront room, views were amazing. I would have given 5 stars, but at checkout I was surprised to be charged an environmental fee of $40 per night? Seems a bit high!

The walls/floors are paper thin so good luck sleeping with other guests around. And the bed was mediocre, which did not help the sleeping cause. Also. For 400$ (min) a night, you would think they would give you water, but no, you have to pay 5$ for water, which I found absurd. All in all, not worth the $$

  1. Labor Day weekend 2022! We are returning guest and I was very pleased with the great customer service and prompt attention to request from our room. Everyone was very helpful, provided excellent customer service and worked very hard. The front desk staff was friendly, guest service at the breakfast line was always smiling and very nice, cooks were hard at work making every plate to match requests, bar staff was excellent, room service was prompt, and pool staff was hard at work trying to keep towels stocked. Great remodeling on the room stayed in room 2305 and was pleasantly surprised to have some ocean views. Thank you for all your hard work and providing an excellent stay!

  2. This place has been a hidden gem for years. With the changes made it is even nicer. The rooms are steps from the sand or pool. The views from the rooms toward the ocean are amazing. The sunsets are beautiful. Access to local restaurants are minutes away. If you want to get away from home but not go too far or spend thousands, this is a great get away with or without kids.

  3. Stayed over the Christmas weekend and loved it. The staff is super friendly and welcoming. They accommodated my family without any issues. My sister in law is in a wheel chair and they went above and beyond to make sure she was happy. They even had a beach wheel chair we were able to use. She hasn’t felt the beach in almost 20 years thank you so much to the staff for helping my family make great memories. We will definitely be back again. The rooms are clean and spacious and the court yard and pool are beautiful.

  4. Amazing renovations and additions (reception area, rooms, waterfalls, bonfires, mariachi, equipment store). Location is near shops and marina. Ginormous heated pool and jacuzzi still a big plus. Missing free breakfast especially with family of four. Hidden “free equipment rental” seemed dishonest. Not really free when I found out via the receipt that I had I paid for it under “resort fees.” It was upsetting. The receptionist even stuttered when I call to find out about the fee. I thought I was getting back my full deposit fee and feel I was played for more than half of it. Parking took some more from my deposit. Also, I reserved via a third party for a “bay view” but was not originally accepted by reception and instead was offered ocean view for a whopping extra $125-150 per night. Ridiculous!!! Eventually, after a call to supervisor, my reservation was honored but got a side room pretty far from the beach and with a view of sand dunes primarily. Really? I love the hotel but became skeptical, suspicious because of the latter mentioned. Not a great way to foster customer loyalty. I realize that renovations cost money, but via these practices?

  5. I’ve stayed at this hotel for almost 30 years and am so disappointed with my most recent visit. One change no one told me about at check- in was that you can no longer grab a luggage cart in self parking and take your own things to your room. I had to go back to the lobby from the garage in search of a luggage rack to find this out. Such a ridiculous change and an inconvenience. I brought a dog and didn’t receive the doggy welcome kit when I checked in and only learned about it in the restaurant. When I made my first cup of coffee in my room, it was cold. I had to have the machine replaced. On my fourth night here I was locked out of my room after 9 pm when the lock on my door stopped functioning. It took two trips to the lobby to finally get someone to meet me at my door, let me in, and fix the lock. This took well over a half hour. Unacceptable. They also no longer offer a digital key which was an option as recently as April. The hallway on my floor was never vacuumed during the week I was there, despite two complaints about it and a manager saying she’d make sure it was done. There was fruit on the ground and trash for over 24 hours each also in the hallway. This is in a building with oceanfront rooms and a steep price tag. I’ve stayed at far less expensive hotels that were much better cared for than this place. Every night wet towels and trash were strewn around the pool and no one cleaned up until the next day. The primary lock on my sliding door also did not latch. I also have a shelf over the sink in my room that is separating from the wall and two cushions on my couch are shredded. Overall, this is an extremely disappointing experience. When I spoke with the manager about many of my concerns, she listened politely but that was it. I’m a Hilton Honors member and stay at Hilton hotels just about every month. I’ve never had an experience like this at any other Hilton property or any other hotel, for that matter. Besides the location and the polite staff, the experience doesn’t reflect the price and what any guest should expect when they vacation at a hotel at this brand level.
