We stayed here for a week with our two children, ages 2 and 4 and it was great! Really enjoyed the beach, beach club pool and all the overall feel of the hotel! Very family friendly and a great location that is super central to many activities and also walkable. Would recommend to families looking for a budget option that doesn’t feel “budget” at all!
Also – we were confused if it was actually on the water. It is! Part of the resort is a bit set back from the water but there’s also a large pool area (the Beach Club) and a nice beach space for the kids to play in the water.
By Althea Livingston (2 months ago)The room was a dump and the food sucked but other than that everything was great. Service was very good, drinks were good, and Raul at the beach pool always kept things fun throughout the day. The location is also fantastic. We ate out for dinner most nights but overall enjoyed the service, staff, and facilities.By Caleb Christel (4 months ago)The waiters and waitresses as well as bar staff are awesome. Especially the Caruso restaurant evening staff. Great food there too. The buffet was hit and miss on quality but we always found food we like there. The busboy staff also deserve a thumbs up. Very helpful. The check-in staff could use better training. They fell very short.By Rick Hofman (2 months ago)If you’re in Avid all inclusive, goer I’d say skip this place. Expectations will not be met. It’s fine if you’re looking for a budget place for a day or two, but definitely not an entire week. Biggest issue I had with the place was the food which was not good. Aside from that everyone that works there is nice. If you tip your servers they’ll keep bringing you drinks and the activity team makes poolside activities fun. It’s also by the beach which is always great overall go for it if you’re on a budget but look elsewhere if you can afford to splurge.By Erika Castedo (a month ago)The location is great if you like walking you can get very easily to the Malecon like in 35 minutes. The best in this hotel was the people working here, everyone was very nice and helpful. All the money we paid was worth it for them and the drinks were fantastic. Food was okay. We made a reservation to have Asian dinner, this was delicious. They change the theme every night. Rooms were okay.
Not so good points: there was not any elevator. Very hard to go around with your suitcases. On the weekend we stayed there it was completely full. They don’t have the right amount of workers to provide the service. I am sure the ones that were on duty did their best but it was not enough, even the size of the lobby, restaurants and pools are not equipped to hold a big amount of people. Definitely, they need to rethink if they want to have all their rooms booked out. They need more room for everything. As well, cleaning in the rooms was not good. The cleaning was about just making the bed and that’s it. I don’t think we will come back. However, after all we enjoyed our time there. At the end what matters is to be at the beach with your family.By Julio Rico (4 months ago)

I didn’t stay at the hotel but visited friends who stayed there. I went there mostly for the beach. Everytime I went the beach was nice and there were all kinds of people out there enjoying the sun just like me. Sand was nice. At times too hot because of the heat but most times it was nice at it is in January. The beach side is very pleasant with many vendors selling various items. But if they saw you were relaxed they left you alone.
I like the small beach and recommend a visit to relax and enjoy the sun.
By Juan Hernandez (3 months ago)The room itself was nice and roomy with a full kitchen but no hot water for first three days, showers were not ice cold but not warm, and intermittent hot water for the entire stay. The sheets were put on the bed in a weird way, the bottom one didn’t go all the way to foot of bed so your feet were on the mattress pad and the top sheet was tucked in at the foot so far that when laying in the bed, you could only pull the sheet up to chest level. Only one wash cloth in a two bedroom unit and no additional cloths were available for the week we were there. I understood there was a buffet and a restaurant; however, there is only a buffet and a burger/hotdog/taco stand by the pool and it isn’t open all day. The rooftop bar area was the highlight, very beautiful and partially covered, ocean right there, multiple seating areas and two hot tub/spas. We could only enjoy it part of the time because it wasn’t open until the afternoon and people rented the entire thing for a wedding reception. When we asked at the front desk if they had hot tub or spa they said no…when there were actually two. Staff were all very nice and friendly. Resort is quite far from town although taxis are very reasonable. It is a very busy resort that caters to locals when they are not fully booked. The pool was so crowded every single day, we never got to go in. I loved the city and the food and the beach but would not go back to this resort.By Nancy Kraft (2 months ago)Terrible!!!! Do not come to this property they will try to screw you over. The new management has drove this place into the ground. They will not honor your reservations, the place is dirty and unkept (cockroach and black mold in rooms), they cater to friends of the workers. I would avoid this place like the plague. They will also try to hard sell you in their promotions and if you don’t buy in the treat you terrible the rest of your stay. The restaurant is cafeteria food and the bar serves sugary weak drinks. The pool was very dirty when it got busy.
I’ve been coming to this place for 15 years and it saddens me that it’s gone downhill so bad. Poor management.By Brent Barnes (3 weeks ago)Stay away at all costs! I have been to many resorts around the world and this is by far the worst on every level. From check in and being put into different buildings? To awful amenities, rooms are not clean, showers are broken, restaraunts closed, no wifi in rooms, and the management and staff are rude and unhelpful. We ended up leaving early and going somewhere else. I would never recommend this so called hotel to anyone. STAY AWAY. When the email came to give a review, I went to give a negative one and the system said I never stayed there so the link never worked. Hence why reviews are higher then they should beBy Bryn Freed (a month ago)Mexican style resort, food was ok, activities were good, no problems with our room snack bar, pizza , bar , worked very well. The negative was they need more lounge chairs around the pool, there is room for more, you have to get up early to find them because people reserve them for hours before they use them, would go back.By Dave Middleton (2 months ago)

Stay at this resort at least twice a year for several weeks at a time. It is a smaller resort, fairly quiet, nice rooms , on the ocean and the best staff of over 500 people that you will ever meet. In the past I have mentioned many of the great people who work in concierge, a lot of the waiters , pool and restaurants, a lot of staff managers . Rawl the butler around the pool is a great person, very friendly and never gets upset, Sarah and Beatrice working with member services always have time to stop and chat with a friendly smile.I want to mention 3 people in particular that work on the front desk check in .Jose, front desk manager, Daniel, assistant front desk manager and Thelma working at front desk checking people in have been excellent in getting me rooms that I preferred. These people are very accommodating and will go to great lengths to see that you are happy in your stay. If you have a chance, visit this resort and discover what so many others have found as a hidden gem. Alex our new general manager appears to be very interested in seeing that this resort stays a 5 Star resort that people want to visit. He, as well, is very proud of the staff that works here. Come and try it, I promise you will not be disappointed
We had a wonderful stay at Villa Palmar. The hotel wasn’t brand new but it was in very good condition. The staff was excellent and we had everything we needed. There were several great restaurants on the property which was very convenient if you didn’t feel like going out somewhere to eat. I liked that it was right on the beach. Someone always helped us grab some lounge chairs, got an umbrella for us and even dug a hole in the sand to place the umbrella in so we had shade while we lolled on the beach. We will be back. Our room had a patio that overlooked the pool area. We enjoyed relaxing on our balcony.
We booked two rooms for the “Mexican experience “ at this resort. When we arrived on Friday, none of the promised amenities were Included. We were forced to listen to a rep for the timeshare program. We said we had zero Interest and just wanted to get to our room. She then said she works on commission and tried to sell us half price massage coupons for the spa. The rooms were not what we booked and paid for but could not get any change or information from the front desk. Asked about the ME several times and staff ignored us. Finally on Sunday, we spoke to the manager who said the program closed and corporate should have called me. He said he couldn’t get any discounts or credits for us. He advised we call corporate. They suggested that if I had signed up for tours, maybe I would be having a better time. After numerous emails and calls, corporate told us the manager on site had to be the one to offer a credit. The manager said he couldn’t. We got a free lunch on the day of check out. Not even close to what we should have gotten and paid for.
Don’t stay in building B. It backs up to the service area which starts deliveries and making noise at 4am. The peacocks are cute until they start screaming before sunrise. The rooms pick up all noise from the device area. We could hear staff laughing and talking at all hours of the night.
The Christmas Eve buffet was impossible To get into. Only option was room service that too almost two hours. Christmas Day buffet was cold and a lot of items were missing by the time we got through the line.
Not enough bar staff for the pool areas. Takes forever! Beach chairs get reserved by guests before breakfast. Go early.
Staff answering the phone were rude and snippy.
Positive- the sports bar had good food and the staff were so attentive.
Beds were hard. Room service dishes were never cleared by housekeeping. Elevator was down so we had to go up and down four flights of stairs.
Maybe you are treated better if you go to the timeshare talk. We just wanted to enjoy the amenities of the hotel and relax.
Very impressive place. We stayed on all inclusive package for 7 days over the Christmas holiday 2022. It was our first holiday in Mexico. The
Staff was amazing, the food was good, the room was clean. Being one of the first villa del palmar hotels built ; it had few minor issues like elevator out of service for a few hours and water pressure low. Not all rooms come
With an ocean view. I can not
Get over my morning orange juice freshly squeezed every morning! We’d love to come visit again!
We had a lovely stay here for our anniversary. We were given an upgraded room upon arrival. Paul was very helpful and great to talk to. Our housekeeper Ana kept our room tip top! The servers in the bar/restaurant next to the pool were very friendly and the food was delicious. The beach side service was great and the margaritas were just right (not too sweet!) The food park across the street has a ton of great options as well.
We would absolutely come here again and would definitely recommend!
